Dr. Bonaccorso earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Buenos Aires Faculty of Medicine. Her post-graduate training and practice was in infectious diseases, internal medicine and nephrology. She also established and managed a renal hemodialysis unit in Buenos Aires.
During the early 1970's, Dr. Bonaccorso was a leading television anchorwoman in Argentina. In 1976, she was appointed Director of Professional Relations for Merck Sharp & Dohme Argentina (a fully-owned subsidiary of Merck & Co., Inc.) and held that position until 1979 when she returned to private medical practice.
Following eight years of medical practice, Dr. Bonaccorso rejoined Merck in 1987 at the company's global headquarters in New Jersey. She enjoyed a long and distinguished career before retiring in 2006 as Senior Vice President, Worldwide Marketing & Medical Services. Her broad range of responsibilities included the development and implementation of strategic marketing, medical and training programs, materials and services, as well as the delivery of clinical development, market research and outcomes research support for the company’s worldwide human health business.
Through Dr. Bonaccorso’s vision and leadership, several major milestones were achieved at Merck: global branding was established for all new products; Merck entered the Internet age under her direction; the company began using electronic data capture in clinical research; a global publications strategy was developed and implemented; and marketing and sales information systems were established between the company’s headquarters and subsidiaries around the world.
Dr. Bonaccorso was a member of the Editorial Board for the British Medical Journal from 2002 to 2006 and she is a member of the International Society of Nephrology.
She is a big fan of Formula One Racing (Ferrari, of course) and no Soccer World Cup has been held without her presence since 1978. Dr. Bonaccorso is an avid reader, and loves listening to music and dancing.
